Since 2010 Dominion Constructors and Bassett Plumbing have teamed up to present one of the most unique events on the corporate and charity landscape in New Zealand. The annual ‘Chopper Cup’ regatta pits corporate teams with little or no sailing experience against one another in a fun and lighthearted race, all in aid of Auckland’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The last 2 years have both raised over $150,000 through entry fees and auction items, with sailors, boats, club rooms and organising team all generously donating their time and services to make the day happen.
The 2019 event will take place on November 19, and our aim is the same as last year – to reach capacity and sell out! With so many teams eager to return each year early registration is recommended to make sure you don’t miss out!
ON THE DAY
The event provides for 2 ‘classes’ of team depending on size of the vessel and number of participants in your team. There is absolutely no need for any sailing experience, as skippers and vessels are provided to enable you to take in all of the sights and sounds of the picturesque Auckland harbour. Our sincerest thank yous must be extended to the Ponsonby Cruising Club, for without their venue and organisational support we would not be able to have this event. PCC will indeed be our base before the race begins, and where we return for the ‘post match’ drinks and auction.
Snacks & refreshments are provided on all vessels, along with dinner and drinks provided into the evening thanks to Neat Meat and KPMG. Prizegiving & celebrations afterwards are a fantastic chance to network with fellow boaties, or share your first experiences on the water over a cold refreshment.
